Efficient Collection Systems WG, we visit the Conca de Barberà pilot project

Within the framework of the Efficient Collection Systems Working Group of the Waste Cluster, on 10 July we visited the Conca de Barberà Pilot Project.

This working group, comprising a small group of Cluster partners, is focussed on improving the current municipal waste systems, thus reducing the presence of unsuitable waste (waste that does not correspond to the content in question) to obtain good quality materials and/or resources. Following the proposals and needs identified in the previous sessions, on this occasion we visited the Conca de Barberà Pilot Project.

This project is a model that includes the 22 municipalities in the region, and is based on two differentiated systems: collection in closed organic and waste containers in the smallest towns, and door-to-door collection in the largest towns.

Together with the regional team in charge and the private company that carries out the service, we toured the Conca de Barberà Waste Processing Centre. We also got to know the real collection data, answered any questions and identified the problems that are facing to offer solutions from the Cluster and contribute to this process of continued improvement.

This is the first visit of the working group to a CPI; we will continue organising visits to other efficient collection system projects that are operating in Catalonia.
